LIQUID SALT INTERVIEW

I am stoked to be profiled in the latest update on LIQUID SALT…

Liquid Salt™ aims to celebrate surfing for what it is: a joyful union between the surfer and the ocean.

Part blog and part magazine, its premise is to give voice to those people—surfers, shapers, writers, artists, filmmakers and photographers—who quietly keep surf culture alive. Their mission is to highlight the rich, vibrant diversity of the worldwide surfing community.

SWITCHFOOT BRO AM – ART AUCTION

I am very stoked to be apart of the SWITCHFOOT BRO AM again this year.  I have donated a very limited one-of-a-kind piece for their auction night.

The Switchfoot Bro-Am surf contest and concert returns to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas on Saturday, June 26, 2010. An annual event that was created to give back to the San Diego community while benefiting a local children’s charity through funds raised at a pre-event auction night set for Friday, June 25, as well as from vendors on the beach day-of, sponsorships, and an after-party at the Belly Up Tavern.

The 6th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am presented by Hurley will benefit the San Diego and Oceanside chapters of StandUp For Kids, a national nonprofit volunteer outreach organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk, homeless, and street kids. (www.standupforkids.org

CARDBOARD SURFBOARD

I love listening to people who have taken their gifts, smarts, education and apply it to the surf culture.  I came across this video on Korduroy TV and I had to repost it.  Here is a guy, Mike Sheldrake who taking his ideas and really making it happen… cant wait to get my kit.

MY ART FEATURED IN BOARDROOM by Markus Davids

I am very excited to announce that I have been asked to take part in the movie BOARDROOM by Markus Davids.  They are using 5 of pieces from my “ART in SHAPING” series and showcasing them amongst interviews with the greats surfers/ shaping legends in the industry.  Being someone who loves and admires the craft of handing boards, can only dream of this opportunity.  From the trailers to updates of the people being interview, this is setting up to be an excellent film paying respect to all of those that paved the way…. hand crafting a movement.

DR SEUSS CHANGED MY LIFE.

Here is a new block print / watercolor inspired by the man… ******limited prints are available********

So like the millions of people in the world…. Dr. Seuss changed my life.  Green Eggs and Ham was the first book I ever read.  I had piles of his poems littered with free spirited illustrations everywhere. There was a period of my life when I was fascinated with drawing like him, opening my mind to creating characters that didn’t need  proportional bodies and faces, arms or legs, like I was so used to drawing. There was a point in my cartooning phase where it was hard to break from what the form was “suppose to look like”, and be free with my lines.  When I knocked down those walls, everything opened up for me.

Dr.Seuss I thank you … I am grateful for all the poems and artwork that 25 years later, I still cant get out of my head.
